quote abuse
A very occasional hobby of mine is repurposing quotes from classical works whose words have changed meaning. A few off the top of my head:
- For a web error message:
Alfred, Lord Tennyson, The Lady of ShalottOut flew the web and floated wide;
The mirror cracked from side to side... - For Escape Velocity:
Herman Melville, Moby-DickThis warp seemed necessity; and here, thought I, with my own hand I ply my own shuttle and weave my own destiny into these unalterable threads.
- Less awesome but still amusing, for StarCraft:
Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient MarinerThe many men, so beautiful!
And they all dead did lie:
And a thousand thousand slimy things
Lived on; and so did I.
